Join The Team

Apply to join the Hamper Team as a volunteer.

Helping co-ordinate the hamper appeal is a hugely rewarding experience. This is a great opportunity to give back a few hours a week to help your local families in crisis celebrate Christmas together. We are currently recruiting a team in preparation for December 2019.

Each volunteer will be expected to commit four hours a week (typically on a Thursday morning) between April and January. Successful candidates will learn their speciality at the foodbank between March and August before the project begins in earnest in September. Hamper week itself (Mon 16 – Thu 19 Dec 19) will be considerably more involved and delivery day itself (Thu 19 Dec 19) will be especially busy.

We are looking for people who:

  • are passionate and committed to goal of the project – to help local families celebrate Christmas together
  • can work as part of a team and be trusted to operate independently when required
  • have strong literacy, numeracy and IT skills
  • have excellent communication and inter-personal skills
  • can use initiative to make new contacts and find opportunities to develop existing partnerships
  • can manage their time well to meet goals efficiently
  • have the potential to develop a skill set that match the requirements of one or more of the posts listed below

 

Vacancies

We are currently recruiting for the following posts:

 

Referrals Co-ordinator

Liase with our network of referral agencies and administer their nominations.

We are looking for someone who will:

  • become very familiar with the Trussell Trust Data System and the foodbank’s referral criteria and procedure by working in the foodbank office
  • help us grow our network of agencies who nominate families for Christmas hampers
  • be able to administer hundreds of nominations, communicate timely with the relevant agencies and act as the main point of contact on delivery day

 

Stock Co-ordinator

Manage the food pledges from our partner groups and mange the stock.

We are looking for someone who will:

  • learn the stock management procedures through working in the foodbank warehouse
  • drive the food pledge campaign by working with our partner groups to secure the food we need
  • be capable of managing the collection, recording, processing and storage of over 6 tonnes of stock including the packing of 200 hampers

 

Logistics Co-ordinator

Recruit drivers and handle the practicalities of delivery day.

We are looking for someone who will:

  • learn their trade through working with the foodbank delivery and collection team
  • help recruit and train up to 70 delivery drivers by processing their applications, chasing references and briefing them on their role
  • be confident co-ordinating the fleet of drivers on delivery day

 

Fundraising Co-ordinator

Resource the project by administering the Sponsor a Hamper campaign and applying for grants.

We are looking for someone who will:

  • develop a practical understanding of project resourcing as part of the foodbank fundraising team
  • identify and pursue funding opportunities including the development of relationships with corporate sponsors and grant awarding bodies
  • strive to promote and administer the Sponsor a Hamper campaign and apply for grants so as to achieve our £8,000 fundraising goal

 

Communications Co-ordinator

Promote the project through various media.

We are looking for someone who will:

  • become an integral part of the foodbank communications team, learning the ropes as they contribute towards promoting our message
  • plan and implement our hamper communications plan so as to raise awareness of the project, gain support and change public perception of the issues we are working to resolve concerning poverty and isolation
  • aim to use all appropriate communications channels to best effect, including local and social media, by developing relationships with journalists and employing photography and graphic design to present our message clearly and attractively
