Bournemouth Food Bank getting a run for their money this October

1st September 2024

Local charity partners with run club to raise essential funds.

Bournemouth Food Bank (BFB) has joined forces with local running group, Sole Clinic, to raise money for a new van which will expand its services. The Westbourne-based social run club will be taking part in Bournemouth’s Bay Half Marathon in October, with each donation of support being matched up to £250. All money raised by Sole Clinic’s 30-strong group will be donated directly to BFB, enabling the charity to reach more beneficiaries and provide food for those in need.

In 2023/2024, BFB fed over 15,000 individuals, over 3,300 being children. With the cost-of-living crisis, more people are under pressure to financially support their families, relying on not-for-profit organisations like BFB to provide lifesaving support.

Rio Argent, Grants & Fundraising Manager at Bournemouth Food Bank, said: “Seeing the community come together to support Bournemouth Foodbank fills us with hope. Every step run and every pound donated brings us closer to our goal to ensure we can continue to support the increasing number of families relying on us during these challenging times.”

76 participants will take on 13.1 miles across the British seaside with spectators and supporters along the promenade to cheer on their efforts. In the lead up to the event, Sole Clinic is providing tailored running courses for all abilities, including a dedicated woman-only run-club, Sole Sisters, which takes place once a fortnight.

Jake Balston, Co-Founder of Sole Clinic, said: “Sole Clinic was founded by a small group of us who wanted to give people a sense of community and connection. Since then, it’s become a hub for local people, and we’re immensely proud to be partnering with such a vital part of the community. As soon as we heard about Bournemouth Food Bank’s need for resources, we immediately wanted to find a way to help them continue their work of making those in need feel seen and protected.

“The Bay Half Marathon is open for absolutely anyone to take part and includes the options of a five or 10 kilometre run as well. We’re looking forward to seeing everyone showing their support, and we’re honoured to help such a good cause.”

The Bay Half Marathon takes place between Boscombe and Bournemouth piers on Sunday 13th October 2024.
