Lend a hand! Foodbank volunteer vacancies

26th January 2018

Bournemouth Foodbank Needs You!

Over the last 6 months, we have fed 2,500 local people in crisis. As the problem of food poverty worsens in our town, we need more help to meet this desperate need.

Alongside food donations and financial contributions, volunteers are the vital life blood of our operation.

We rely on our warehouse team to process an average of three and a half tonnes of food donations per month. Our drivers deliver emergency food boxes to our five distribution centres where even more volunteers meet the clients face to face and serve each one with dignity and compassion.

On top of all that many others help out with one-off events, perhaps at a local supermarket encouraging shoppers to buy an extra tin or two for the Foodbank.

We also have other behind the scenes roles that enable the work of the Foodbank – we’re currently looking for a social media volunteer to join our communications team. You can find out more about this particular role by reading the job description here!

At the Foodbank we value our volunteers.

They are truly priceless (that’s the reason we could never afford their salaries!). We take care to equip all volunteers with the training and support they need.

Many of our volunteers are between jobs, but eager to do something constructive and work on their employability. Others may be retired, placement students or even just keen to give a couple of hours on the occasional weekend.

Volunteering for the Foodbank is not only a way to change lives, but it’s incredibly rewarding, too.

Don’t believe us? Here’s what some of our current team have to say!

“Working at the Foodbank gives me a purpose and I just like helping others. Simple as that.”

Mike, Foodbank Warehouse Volunteer

“I really believe in the work of the Foodbank and I feel this is a great alternative to being stuck in a stuffy office!”

Alan, Foodbank Driver

Sarah, another new member of the team said this:

“The first time I came in, I just couldn’t believe how much could be done with so little. It’s an incredible amount of work, but we always manage to get it done.”

Matt, one of a number of placement students who have worked with us at the Foodbank, has this to say:

“The best thing about the Foodbank is working with the volunteers – this is good for my skills so I can get a job in the future.”
