Foodbank Network

How The Trussell Trust supports communites.

The Trussell Trust is a UK charity which supports a nationwide network of 428 food banks, and together with the network’s food banks, they provide emergency food and support to people locked in poverty and campaign for change to end the need for food banks in the UK.

In 2022/23, food banks in the Trussell Trust’s network provided 2,986,203 three-day emergency food supplies and support to UK people in crisis. Of these, 1,139,553 were distributed for children.

The Foodbank Network was founded in 2004 after four years of developing the original foodbank based in Salisbury. Since then, The Trussell Trust has helped communities work together to launch foodbanks nationwide in a wide range of towns and cities.

There are more than 1,200 food bank centres in our network, about two-thirds of the food banks in the UK. The Trussell Trust supports these food banks to provide a minimum of three days’ nutritionally-balanced emergency food to people who have been referred in crisis (for instance, by advice agencies, GPs, social services and schools), as well as support to help people resolve the crises they face.

More than 14 million people in the UK live below the poverty line. We understand that every person’s struggle with poverty is different and that it takes more than food to end hunger. So The Trussell Trust brings together the experiences of food banks in their network and their communities to challenge the structural issues that lock people in poverty and campaign for change to end the need for food banks in the UK.
